Troubleshooting¶
Common issues and how to resolve them.
| Issue | What to Do |
|---|---|
| Installer says Python isn't installed (Windows) | Install Python 3 from python.org, then re-run the installer one-liner. |
| Installer fails on Linux | Confirm you ran it with sudo, and that Python 3 is installed (python3 --version). |
| Customer Key rejected | Re-copy the key from the staple IP dashboard, then run Reconfigure (change key) from the gs-director menu. |
| Status shows tunnel Active but traffic isn't reaching the origin | Confirm your origin's firewall allows GRE (IP protocol 47). Some hosting providers block GRE by default — if you can't enable it, consider FOU Tunnel mode instead. See the Proxy Modes Reference. |
| Need to temporarily stop the tunnel | Choose Teardown Tunnels from the menu. The service stays installed; just no tunnel is running. To remove Director entirely, run gs-director uninstall. |
| Can't change Destination IP or Transport IP on the dashboard | The proxy must be deactivated before these fields can be edited. See Editing Your Configuration. |
