Adding Network Protection

This guide walks you through enabling Network Protection for your origin server using GatewaySentry. Network Protection routes traffic through GatewaySentry's edge network at the IP layer — protecting any kind of TCP/UDP service, not just HTTP(S) websites.

The setup walkthrough is split into five steps, followed by deep reference pages covering all four proxy modes and every field on the staple IP dashboard.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • Access to your GatewaySentry account with the correct Organization selected.
  • The public IP address of your origin server — the server you want to protect.
  • Knowledge of which proxy mode you want to use. If you're not sure, Reverse Proxy is the simplest option and works for most web and game traffic. See the Proxy Modes Reference for details.
  • Access to your DNS settings, if you plan to point a domain at the staple IP after setup.

What is a "staple IP"? It's a stable, dedicated public IP address assigned to you from GatewaySentry's pool. Traffic sent to your staple IP is filtered and forwarded to your origin server based on the proxy mode you choose.
